The Secret Santa Murders is a printable Christmas murder mystery for 4 to 20 players that runs about two hours, and the person who organized it gets to play. Eight coworkers, a blind gift exchange where nine names were drawn in secret, and this year the gifts are not funny: every one lands squarely on something the person receiving it would rather nobody knew. At 9:12 in the evening the Director of Operations is found in the fourth floor storage loft. As the night goes on the table fills in a printed Gift Chain Grid and rebuilds who gave what to whom, because whoever received the gift that came out of the victim's own hands is the person the victim had leverage over.

Can the host really play?
Yes. The solution is a separate PDF that opens on a do-not-open cover page, and the clue cards are sorted by the numbers printed on their backs, so you build the sealed packets without reading any evidence. If you are the sort of person who will peek, have somebody else seal the solution and hide it. You will have a better night not knowing.
How long does it take?
About two hours for the full three round game, with a minute by minute timeline in the host guide. The Short Play variant runs 60 to 65 minutes and is the same mystery with the same murderer, just with one lap of arguing removed.
Is it appropriate for a work party?
The host guide gives you a page on exactly this. No suspect has a gender in the mechanics, every role is written to be played by anyone, and the guide tells you which two booklets not to hand to the people who really hold those jobs, and how to handle it if your company has just been through a difficult few months. Dealing the booklets face down solves nearly all of it by itself.
Can we play it as a family Christmas game instead?
Yes, and nothing needs rewriting. You say one sentence at the start, that this is set at a small company holiday party and your family gift exchange is the same thing with worse manners, then swap the job titles for family roles as you introduce people. Every clue card and every piece of timing works untouched.
Does it actually work with only four players?
Yes. Each of the four holds two character booklets and reads both, saying the name before each statement so the table always knows who is speaking. The kit tells you exactly which pairs to use. All eight suspects are always in play and all 25 clues are always read.
Is there any acting or memorizing?
None. Every line is printed and read aloud. Nobody needs a costume, an accent, or a rehearsal.
What if someone cancels an hour before?
Walk the ladder backward and change nothing else. From 20 down to 9, remove one witness card and deal that round's clue cards to somebody else. Dropping to 8 means removing the witnesses. Below 8, move one row down the doubling chart. No clue is ever removed and no suspect is ever cut.
Is this a physical product?
