The problem — the second week of December: the cards are bought and still in the wrapper, the letter stops at “Dear friends, this year we”, and the mail-by date is the 20th.
Before and after — the same twelve months as a blank page every December, versus twenty minutes of twelve boxes, eight numbers and one layout that made it into the envelope.
How it works — fill the twelve month boxes with one thing each, pick eight numbers from the Year in Numbers page, then choose a layout and copy it across.
The month-by-month planner — one line per month, so June's trampoline, cast, six weeks is a paragraph you did not have to invent at eleven at night.
The Year in Numbers page — 2,140 miles, 6 states, 62 books, 7 teeth, 41 soccer games and 3 dog escapes: 24 prompts, and you pick 8.
Every page has a job — the month planner, the Year in Numbers page, five letter layouts including the newspaper front page, matching cards, photo sheets, address labels, the send tracker and the quiet-year prompts.
The big number — 74 addresses, one letter: seventy-four envelopes going out this year against fifty-one that came in, written once and printed seventy-four times.
The three worries answered on one screen — I am not a writer, our year was boring, and I do not have Canva.
What you do now, and what changes — we just send a photo card, I wrote one last year, and we are late, each one answered.
What is in the file — five genuinely different letter layouts, five matching card fronts and backs, the month-by-month planner, the Year in Numbers page and the send tracker, in five colorways, at $16.97.
The justification — skip it and the cards go out signed with nothing in them, or twenty minutes and they go out with the year in them.
Send the year, not just your name — five layouts, matching cards, and the twenty minutes that makes it easy.

Every December it is the same order of operations. The cards get bought, the stamps get bought, and the letter, the actual point of the thing, is still a blank page on the fourteenth. The reason is never laziness. It is that "sum up our year" is a genuinely hard writing prompt to face cold. So this does not start you at the letter. It starts you at twelve boxes, one line each, one for every month, and a page of number prompts. Fill those in, which takes about eleven minutes, and the letter is already written in pieces. Then you pick one of five layouts and copy it across.

  • Five letter layouts that are genuinely different, not recolored — a Classic one-page prose letter, a Two-Page Spread with a photo half, a Month Grid of twelve short entries, a Year in Numbers infographic, and a Newspaper front page with a masthead
  • Five matching card fronts and five backs with a photo box, so the envelope matches the letter
  • The month-by-month planner and the Year in Numbers page with twenty-four prompts, pick eight
  • A page for each child, up to three, and four photo collage sheets — one up, four up, nine up, and a twelve-month strip
  • Thirty-up address labels and return labels, a send tracker that records who you sent to, who sent you one and who moved, and eighteen prompts written for a quiet year

Overview

It was a year. Now write it down in twenty minutes.

In the sample year that produced a letter with 2,140 miles, six states, sixty-two books, seven lost teeth, three dog escapes and one broken arm in it, going out to seventy-four addresses. And it is not a one-year file: next November, open the same file, clear the twelve boxes, and do it again. The send tracker carries forward, which is the part you will be glad about when somebody has moved.

Key Benefits

Why this one

You never start at the letter

You start at twelve boxes, one line each, one for every month, plus a page of number prompts. About eleven minutes. Then you copy them into a layout that is already designed.

Five layouts, genuinely different

Classic prose, a two-page spread with a photo half, a month grid with no paragraphs at all, a year-in-numbers infographic, and a newspaper front page with a masthead — the one the kids show people.

You are not being asked to write

The Month Grid layout in particular is twelve short entries and no paragraphs. Fill the boxes, copy them across, done.

A quiet year is not a problem

There is a full page of eighteen prompts written specifically for a year where nothing happened. Those letters are usually the better ones.

The envelope matches the letter

Five matching card fronts and five backs with a photo box, plus thirty-up address labels and return labels.

Not a one-year file

Next November, open the same file, clear the twelve boxes, and do it again. The send tracker carries forward — who you sent to, who sent you one, and who moved.

Who It's For

Built for

  • The person in the family who sends the letter every year and dreads the blank page
  • Anyone who buys the cards in November and is still not written on the fourteenth of December
  • A year that was mostly numbers — miles, states, books, teeth — looking for the right shape
  • A quiet year that still deserves a letter

How It Works

Up and running in minutes

Fill in twelve boxes

One line per month. About eleven minutes, and the letter is already written in pieces

Pick eight numbers

The Year in Numbers page gives you twenty-four prompts; choose the eight that fit your year

Choose one of five layouts

Classic, two-page spread, month grid, infographic, or the newspaper front page

Copy it across and print

Print at home or hand the PDF to a print shop — the printing and mailing guide covers real paper weights and honest postage notes

Track who you sent it to

The send tracker records who you sent to, who sent you one, and who moved, and it carries forward to next year

Why It's Different

Not another template

Most Christmas letter templates are one layout in five colors, and they all start you at a blank paragraph. This starts you twelve boxes earlier, gives you five layouts that are structurally different rather than recolored, matches the cards to the letter, and then hands you address labels and a send tracker so the mailing part is handled too. It is also built to be reopened every November rather than thrown away on December 26th.

Delivery & Compatibility

Instant, and it prints on anything

As soon as your order is complete you get instant access to download your files, so the twelve boxes can be filled in tonight. Print at home or at a shop — the print version needs nothing but a printer.

Print-ready PDFs in US Letter and A4. The fillable PDF opens in any free PDF reader. The editable file needs Canva, PowerPoint or Google Slides, all of which have free tiers. Available in English. The letters shown in these images use sample family data to demonstrate the layouts in use; the pages you print are blank.

FAQ

Questions, answered

I am not a writer. Can I still do this?

You are not being asked to write. You are filling twelve boxes and copying them into a layout that is already designed. The Month Grid layout in particular is twelve short entries and no paragraphs at all.

Our year was boring. There is nothing to say.

There is a full page of prompts written specifically for a quiet year, and honestly, those letters are usually the better ones. A year where the biggest news is that you finally fixed the fence reads warmer than a year of announcements.

I do not use Canva.

You do not have to. The print version is a PDF and needs nothing but a printer. If you do want to change the wording, the editable file opens in Canva, PowerPoint or Google Slides, all of which are free to use.

Are the five layouts actually different?

Yes — they are structurally different, not recolored. A Classic one-page prose letter, a Two-Page Spread with a photo half, a Month Grid of twelve short entries, a Year in Numbers infographic, and a Newspaper front page with a masthead.

Can I use it again next year?

Yes. Next November, open the same file, clear the twelve boxes, and do it again. The send tracker carries forward, which is the part you will be glad about when somebody has moved.

Can I get a refund on a digital download?

Because delivery is instant, all sales are final — but message us with any issue and we'll make it right.
